Tournament Update: Marquette defeats Villanova

In the second upset of the day, Marquette defeated Villanova by a score of 80-76. Marquette moves on to the semifinal round to play Georgetown tomorrow at 7 PM (ESPN).
Pitt is up next. The Panthers will take on Notre Dame in less than 20 minutes. The game will be televised on ESPN.
Pitt Men’s Basketball Unranked in AP Preseason Poll

After the ESPN/USA Today Coach’s Poll was released yesterday leaving Pitt off the list, the AP Preseason Poll was released today.
Unfortunately for Panther fans, Pitt is unranked in the AP Preseason Poll as well. Pitt received only 4 votes and was listed by ESPN in the “Others Receiving Votes” category. That unofficially puts the Panthers at 47th place in the poll.
The Big East was again well represented with 5 teams making the top 25 cut in this poll as well: Villanova (5), WVU (8), UConn (12), Louisville (19), and Georgetown (20).

Pitt Men’s Basketball Unranked in Preseason Poll

Pitt is unranked in the preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll for men’s basketball. The poll, which came out earlier today, is the first of the season. They did, however, receive 19 votes and were listed in the “Others Receiving Votes” category by ESPN. That tally unofficially puts the Panthers at 37th place in the poll.
The Big East is well represented in this preseason poll with 6 teams making the top 25 cut: Villanova (6), WVU (9), UConn (14), Georgetown (21), Louisville (23), and Syracuse (25).
